Bulgaria's construction output falls second-fastest in EU in April PDF Print E-mail

Bulgaria's construction output shrank by 22.8 per cent year-on-year in April, the second-steepest annual decline among European Union member countries in the period, data by the bloc's statistics bureau Eurostat showed.

Slovenia was the sole country to fare worse than Bulgaria in the period, registering a drop of 27.3 per cent.

Euro zone members observed an average annual decrease of two per cent in April, while construction output in the EU countries slid 1.2 per cent.

In monthly terms, construction output in the euro area edged up 0.7 per cent, but went down 0.9 per cent in the EU.

The biggest annual rise of 18.7 per cent was reported by Poland, followed by Sweden with 8.1 per cent, Germany with 4.5 per cent and France with 3.8 per cent

 
New Golf Complex near Kavarna PDF Print E-mail

World-known Australian golfer and golf courses designer Gary Player opened a golf complex, Thracian Cliffs, near Kavarna, on the Black Sea, Saturday. The complex covers an area of 164 ha near the coastal line and is the biggest sport and tourist facility in Bulgaria. The project is fully financed by Bulgarian capitals. Over 160 million leva have been invested in it so far. Player voiced the opinion that this is the best golf course at international level. He has implemented over 300 projects across the world so far. A golf course is not merely a playing ground but also a tourist attraction, Player said adding that rich businessmen, who visit Thracian Cliffs would inevitably invest in the country.

Few companies in Bulgaria have managed to prove the adage that a crisis presents opportunities, but drug maker Sopharma, with the growth of sales on foreign markets, is among them. Now it hopes that its real estate affiliate can do the same.

Among the large-scale construction projects announced or started just before the economic recession hit in late 2008, Sopharma Business Towers is among the handful that were not put on ice once the full effect of the financial crisis was felt.

It now nears completion, with company officials expecting to get a key operations permit in August, which would allow the office building to open their doors in late September.

 
International hotel operators keen to enter Bulgaria - Cushman & Wakefield PDF Print E-mail

The city hotel segment in Bulgaria's capital Sofia is still at the development stage and room still exists for new projects, but only in the city centre, says Frederic Le Fichoux, who oversees hotel business at international consultancy Cushman & Wakefield, said on May 18 2011.

Hotels with more than 100 rooms can successfully attract an international operator, Fichoux said on the sidelines of a discussion organised by Cushman & Wakefield's Bulgarian partner, Forton International.

Bulgaria ranked third among the European Union members with the steepest monthly decline in the construction sector in March, posting a drop of 3.1 per cent on a monthly basis, data by EU statistics office Eurostat showed on May 18 2011.

The countries that fared worse than Bulgaria in the period were Slovenia and Portugal, who saw their construction output fall 7.4 per cent and 5.1 per cent month-on-month, respectively.

Bulgaria's Next Largest Shopping Mall to Open 2012 EndParadise Center – the future largest shopping mall in Sofia and Bulgaria – is expected to open at the end of 2012.

The Paradise Center mall will offer a total of 80 000 square meters of commercial space plus 25 000 square meters of entertainment venues, according to Forton International, the company that will manage the leasing of space, as cited by the Pari daily.

The average residential property prices in the Bulgarian capital Sofia have dropped by 9.4% in the first quarter of 2010 year on year, the Raiffeisen Real Estate index has shown.
In comparison with the last quarter of 2010, the prices have decreased by 5.2%
According to a recent research conducted by Sofia based real estate agency Bulgarian Properties, the price levels of residential property in Sofia stood on average at about ERU 830 per square meter in the first quarter of 2011, down from EUR 930 in the last three months of the previous year.

The iPhone and iPad maker's brand is now worth $153 billion, almost half Apple's market capitalization, says the annual BrandZ study of the world's top 100 brands.

Apple's portfolio of coveted consumer goods propelled it past Microsoft to become the world's most valuable technology company last year.
